Advocates for Emergency Medical Services is a coalition of major EMS organizations that was founded October 22, 2002 dedicated to promoting, educating and increasing awareness among decision-makers in Washington on issues affecting EMS providers. AEMS supports all providers of EMS, whether they are fire, hospital, volunteer, third service, or nongovernmental based, by monitoring and influencing legislation and regulatory activity involving EMS and raising awareness among lawmakers on issues of importance to EMS.

Contact Your Representatives in Congress to Cosponsor the Nongovermental Emergency Responder Family Protection Act!

We are asking all members of the EMS community to please contact their representatives in Congress urging them to cosponsor the Nongovernmental Emergency Responder Family Protection Act (H.R. 2485).  Introduced by Congressman Keith Ellison, H.R. 2485 would extend Public Safety Office Death Benefits to the survivors of medics who are employed by nongovernmental EMS agencies and die in the line of duty.  Governmental medics are already eligible for death benefits but tens of thousands of nongovernmental medics are ineligible even though they provide the same life-saving medical care in often dangerous environments.

If you need to determine who your Member of Congress is, simply click the "Take Action" link on the left-hand side of this page and enter your zip code in the search box on CapWiz.  There, you will also find talking points and a form email for your benefit.  As always, thank you for your continued support!
